Guide to Selling Your Letting Agency · The landlords
What does your reputation look like from outside?
The reputation that your letting agency has is vitally important to getting the best sale price for your business. When a potential buyer looks at your agency, one of the first things they will do is look for reviews of it. They will do this before they ever speak to you.
Many businesses, and letting agencies are no exception, are very bad about asking for reviews. This often means that only the most motivated customers end up reviewing their experience of your agency. Unfortunately, the most motivated will include a disproportionate number of negative ones.
A buyer will read your reviews before he ever speaks to you.
In advance of looking to sell your business, you should be actively asking for and encouraging reviews on third party review websites, so that when it comes to selling you have a good number of positive ones. Google, Facebook, AllAgents and GetAgent are the ones a buyer will look at. Be strategic about who you ask, and ask the customers who are likely to give you a good review.
This is a slow fix rather than a quick one, which is exactly why it belongs on a list you work through two or three years out, rather than in the month before you go to market.
